Frequently Asked Questions

  • Psychological therapy utilises evidence-based treatment interventions that have been shown to provide good outcomes for clients experiencing mental health concerns.

Each session will work towards specific goals collaboratively set out by you and your psychologist.

This may involve providing you with information about your diagnosis or your symptoms, strategies to help you manage these symptoms or difficulties, and ways to reduce the frequency or severity of these symptoms.

  • Finding the right match when choosing a psychologist is integral to the therapeutic process.

A good indicator of whether a psychologist is right for you is the level of personal comfort you have with them.

It is important that you feel listened to, validated, accepted, and never judged.

Remember, it is OK to explore your options to ensure you feel safe and comfortable in your therapy sessions.

  • Amber offers her clients a full hour (60 minutes) for each session.

Exceptions to this, if applicable, will be discussed with you.

  • The first session is an assessment session and involves the psychologist working towards understanding what is currently going on for you, what has happened in your past that led to the current issues you are facing, and whether there are other factors involved in the development of your symptoms/ difficulties.

From this information, the psychologist will provide you with a direction for your treatment plan and seek feedback from you as to whether the plan is suitable for you.

  • If you have a referral from your GP or psychiatrist, please forward a copy to amberdoddspsychology@gmail.com prior to your appointment in order to attain a Medicare rebate.

You may also find it beneficial to bring along any information regarding your goals for therapy or history information to assist us in understanding what your current needs are.

  • You are welcome to attend therapy sessions without a referral from a GP or a specialist.

However, without a referral, you will need to pay the full fee of the session privately as you will not receive the Medicare rebate.
